MOUNT MARY COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, SOMANYA

The Governing Council of Mount Mary College of Education (MMCE), Somanya, announces, for the information of the Academic Community and the General Public that the position of Registrar of the College is vacant.

THE COLLEGE

Mount Mary College of Education is one of the 49 public colleges of education located in Somanya in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The college was established in 1947 to train prospective teachers to become competent and qualified teachers for the pre-tertiary level across the country’s education sector.

The College is affiliated to the University of Ghana, Legon and has offered Bachelor of Education degree programmes since the 2018/2019 academic year.

Programmes offered by the College include: Primary Education, JHS Education with options in French and English, French and Ghanaian Languages, English and Ghanaian Languages, Social Studies and History, Religious and Moral Education.

THE REGISTRAR

The Registrar is the College’s Chief Administrative Officer. He/she is responsible for the College’s day-to-day administration under the Principal. The Registrar serves as Secretary to the College Council and the College Academic Board. He/she provides strategic advice and briefings to the Principal and provides leadership and management across a wide range of activities.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

The candidate must:

  1. Possess at least a master’s degree in any one of these areas; Business Administration, Public Administration, Human Resource Management, Social Sciences or any other relevant field.
  2. Have considerable progressive administrative experience in a tertiary institution for at least twelve (12) years, and must be at the rank of Deputy Registrar.
  3. Be a member of a professional body in Ghana.
  4. Have Senior Management experience in a large, complex and decentralised organisation, preferably in an academic institution.
  5. Demonstrate strong intellectual, managerial, communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Be able to implement effective records management systems for the College and possess a deep appreciation of the academic environment of a tertiary education institution (e.g., work experience in the office of the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Principal, Faculty/School, etc.).
  7. Demonstrate sound principles with strong, proven public morality and integrity.
  8. Demonstrate an understanding of tertiary education governance as well as higher education policies and practice, and
  9. Considerable experience in engaging with a wide range of internal and external publics.

TENURE OF OFFICE

The eligible candidate if appointed as College Registrar shall hold office for an initial term of four (4) years from the date of appointment. The appointment may be renewed for one further term only upon satisfactory performance.
